More and more people are taking the opportunity to create healthier, aligned bites and straighter teeth. When it comes to the Invisalign® system, millions of people have used this discreet alignment process to create the smiles they deserve.

Invisalign shifts the teeth into alignment with a predictable, controlled method of tooth movement. This is achieved by wearing clear, plastic, removable, aligners every day for 20-22 hours a day. After approximately two weeks, the aligners are switched out to the next calibrated set of aligners. This is done until the teeth are fully aligned, which can take 12 months on average, sometimes longer.

How long you wear your aligners depends on how diligently you wear them daily. The only time you want to remove the aligners is when you are eating or drinking, or cleaning your teeth and of course, your aligners. Other than that, you pretty much want to wear your aligners around the clock so that they can do the necessary work of aligning your smile!

Our patients love Invisalign for various reasons, in addition to their virtual invisibility:

  • You can eat and drink as usual, without worrying about harming your aligners because you can take them out.
  • You don’t’ have to follow a restricted diet for fear of harming the aligners, but you still don’t want to damage your teeth, so no eating ice! Or hard, sticky candies regularly.
  • You can clean your teeth and gums as easily as you normally do because you don’t wear the aligners while you are cleaning.

You can still brush your teeth twice a day, and floss once, and rinse well after eating to remove stuck food particles and remove plaque. The goal is to wear your aligners as directed while caring for your tooth and gum health so that when they come off, you are free from tooth decay and gum disease.

You can also clean your aligners easily, just take them out and brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water to avoid scratching their clear surface, or clean with the Invisalign cleaning kit.
